Marta Gawlas is a Polish flutist specializing in early music, performing on historical transverse flutes, ranging from the Renaissance to the Romantic era. She graduated with honors from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, where she studied under Magdalena Pilch. She further honed her skills at prestigious European institutions, participating in the Erasmus+ program at the Conservatorio di Verona (Italy) and Haute École de Musique in Geneva (Switzerland), where she studied under Serge Saitta. Additionally, she studied at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel (Belgium) and Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Netherlands), working with Anna Besson and Marten Root.
An active performer in the early music scene for many years, Marta regularly appears as a soloist and as a member of esteemed ensembles. She has collaborated with renowned artists such as William Christie, Bertrand Cuiller, Ton Koopman, Marcin Świątkiewicz, Marc Mauillon, Gaetan Jarry, Aureliusz Golinski, Tom Foster, Martin Gester, Jean-Christophe Spinosi and Marie Perbost.
Throughout her career, she has performed with leading European ensembles, including Les Arts Florissants, The English Concert, Ensemble Matheus, Les Épopées, L’Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal, Arte dei Suonatori, and Capella Cracoviensis. Marta has appeared at major early music festivals in Europe, such as Actus Humanus in Gdańsk, Festival La Vague Classique and Festival d’Ambronay in France, the Early Music Festival in Riga, Utrecht Fringe Festival Oude Muziek, and the Trigonale Festival in Austria.
Marta Gawlas has won numerous prestigious awards. In 2024, she received the Second Prize at the Dutch International Flute Competition in the traverso category. In 2021, she was awarded the Premier Prix at the CIMA International Early Music Competition in Nantes. In both 2022 and 2024, she won the Gli Angeli Prize for the best chamber ensemble in Geneva.
From 2021 to 2023, Marta participated in the Eeemerging+ program with the Cohaere Ensemble, which supports young early music ensembles on the international stage by organizing artistic residencies across Europe and offering training and seminars on artistic development and ensemble management.
Marta has an extensive discography, including collaborations on projects such as Orfeo & Euridice for Warner Classics and Pour Marie-Antoinette, Les Quatre Saisons and Dis-moi Vénus for Château de Versailles Spectacles.
